French designer Christophe Gernigon has conceptualised Plex’Eat, a suspended plexiglass shield for people to safely eat at restaurants while maintaining distance
As parts of the world start reopening post the COVID-19 quarantine, measures are being taken at restaurants and bars to find new and safe ways of welcoming patrons while social-distancing.
One such invention by Paris-based designer Christophe Gernigon is Plex’Eat, which is a transparent, suspended XXL protective visor that can be suspended above diners.
Aesthetically Pleasing and Protective
The design is reminiscent of a lampshade, comprising a cone or a cylinder dangling from the ceiling. The shape of Plex’Eat is a larger and more chic version of the protective visors that frontline workers wear.
Lightweight and Transparent
The Plex’Eat curves up at the back to allow diners to sit and stand up without having to bend over. Also, the protective visors are lightweight and can easily be dismantled between sittings for cleaning and sanitisation.
The design is scheduled to go into production next week, and Gernigon states that he has received interest for the protective shields from France, Belgium, Canada, Japan and Argentina.
The 'New Normal' is in here, but is this the future of dining at restaurants?
