1: Death Valley, California, USA
Death Valley hold’s the Guinness World Record title as the hottest place on earth, reaching a whopping 56.7C in 1913
2: Aziziyah, Libya
The former crown bearer of the hottest place on earth, this small town in the Jafara district of Libya is no stranger to blistering heat.
In 1922 the temperature was recorded as a crushing 58C.
3: Dallol, Ethiopia
Famed for its hydrothermal field of salt formations, acidic hot springs and gas geysers,
Dallol also claims the title of the world’s lowest sub-aerial volcano.
4: Wadi Halfa, Sudan
Virtually no rainfall (an average of 0.5mm annually) and bright sunshine characterise the hot desert climate in northern Sudan.
The hottest temperature recorded is a sweltering 53C in April 1967, and daily highs reach 41C.
5: Dasht-e Lut, Iran
Giant sand dunes and salt plains characterise Iran’s desolate desert plateau.
It’s so hot in fact, that bacteria cannot survive in the crushing heat.
